Contribution to help victims of the Sichuan region earthquake

Joining a vast movement of solidarity, Solvay employees in China collected over CNY 110 000 to help victims of the Earthquake that struck the Sichuan region (China) on 12 May last. The Group’s Chinese subsidiaries then tripled this amount, which will go to help Red Cross operations on the ground.

On 14 July last, Philippe Descamps, President of Solvay Greater China and Christian Grapow, General Manager of Solvay Shanghai Pharmaceuticals, personally handed the cheque to the Shanghai Red Cross, represented by its  Deputy President M Qiong FangJie. Solvay group CEO Christian Jourquin also Handed Mrs Qiyue Zhang, ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in Belgium, EUR 100 000 on behalf of the Group and its employees across the world to help finance the aid work. Solvay’s total contribution amounts to CNY 1.4 million (EUR 130 000).
